Check if you have Conficker Virus
The much-loved-by-the-media Conficker virus is the current 'fear of the month'. This is partially justified, but a clever, simple, and elegant detection method has been proposed. This method is not foolproof, but a nice check nonetheless.
If you can see all the images in the table below (there should be two rows of three) you probably don't have the virus (this method is not a 100% guarantee), if however you can't see the images in the top row, but you can see the images in the second row, you probably do have the conficker virus, and you should download one of the free removal tools linked to at the bottom of this page.

Conficker Removal tools:
- AVG Anti-virus - it's free, and will detect and remove the virus with an on-demand scan
- BitDefender Conficker Removal Tool - Direct Link. BitDefender Conficker Webpage
- Symantec Conficker Removal tool - Direct Link. Symantex Conficker Page
- Sophos Removal Tool Webpage - Sophos make you jump through hoops to get the tool though, no direct link for download.
- Kaspersky Conficker Webpage
If you have Conficker, as soon as it is removed, run Windows Update, there are patches that will protect against it. If you don't have it, still run Windows Update, and apply the patches, no point in risking catching it down the line.
